It's counting back before your birth that's really scary
e.g. someone who turned 50 last year i.e. in 2018 - so born in 1968 - so the gap from the end of the first world war to their birth was roughly the same as the gap from their birth to their 50th birthday. I've worded that horribly badly but you get the drift.
