Hard to explain if you don’t live here. Is commonly understood by anybody who does. For

example the MD of the company I’m working at right now is Portuguese. He chatted away in Spanish to a colleague from Madrid and the colleague was very impressed. “I lived in Madrid for 2 years” was his response. Then I asked him how long he’s lives in the Netherlands. 3 years. His Dutch is very limited. It’s a common narrative.

My Dutch is ok for what it’s worth.
