Because

Whatever happens to West Brom today, Villa could still finish 4th when they play tomorrow. So reason to try and beat Leeds.

But, a West Brom win today would mean that if they lose tomorrow, their last game (vs us) is completely meaningless.

Whereas if West Brom lose today, then if Villa lose tomorrow, they could still hope to finish 4th by beating us.
