So far as I can recall

the Clubs tolerated each other with relative respect until the 1970's when Ipswich developed a really good side while Norwich did not advance to anything like the same extent. Instead of maintaining a smug silence (as largely we do now) Town fans in their excitement opted to give it everything in terms of taking the pi** out of City and the mutual animosity gradually increased culminating in the introductory Suffolk reference to us as scum which prompted a similar and lasting response from ourselves. Ipswich fans went completely over the top with events such as winning 5-0 at Portman Road and Gunny's air kick etc thus digging the hole for themselves that we in turn have been fully exploiting for the last ten years with not inconsiderable amusement!
To be honest I dislike intensely the constant references to scum from both sets of supporters. I think we should be above that and simply do our talking out on the pitch - it's far more effective!
