I think there are a great many people who have never

"loved Nigel", rather given him grudging respect.

I think this is where the whoel fan v Worthy thing comes from, and why there is so much hostility.

When he was caretaker not many Norwich fans wanted him to get the job. When he did, for the first 6 months there were often chants of "you don't know what you're doing" etc at CR.

Worthy has never really had a good relationship with the fans, more an uneasy truce with the first bad run bound to get all those who have never really liked him (me included) on his back.

Ben wanted him out when we got promoted for heaven's sake, so he's never been popular in some quarters.

That's partly because of his dour countenance, partly because of his less than thrilling style of play, and partly because he has made many strange comments about the fans over the years.

His histrionics in recent home games, including allegedly calling some fans "w**kers", has hardened attitudes against him by a section of the crowd - this also happens to be the section of the crowd which is the most vociferous in all circumstances. Not a very smart move.

So, to answer your point, if we were in the top two under Worthington next year, then yes, the protests would stop and everyone would be happy - but he'd be a few poor results away from all those who simply don't like him, his personality and his tactics getting out the Worthy Out banners again.

This, in my opinion, is the main reason we need a new manager - because, like with Souness at Newcastle, sometimes clubs have to bite the bullet and make a decision for overall good of the relationship between the club and its fans and for the good of the atmosphere surrounding the club and the ground on matchdays.

NCFC is not about NW or Delia and Michael, it's about the fans who will be there long after everyone here now is dead and buried.
