Comparisons

First of all be very sure of this: Sod 'disclaimers' - I'm a little long in the tooth to tolerate being told to 'f*** off' for expressing a little tongue-in-cheek opinion, if I am hapless enough to suggest that the pattern and, er, quality of the bulk of last year's pre-season signings might be repeated.
And that's all it is - a little light-hearted gee-up, designed to break the monotony of Big Brother discussion.
But the main point is this. I've been following this club for almost thirty years and it has always been very difficult to attract players to Norfolk because, despite the fantastic Prem-standard facilities, it is regarded - rightly or wrongly - as a backwater. Darren Huckerby came to Norwich because that appealled to him, but sadly I believe he's in the minority. That means that a NCFC manager has to work doubly, no trebly hard to make things happen. I, personally, am yet to be convinced that NW is totally in tune with that fact. I should like to believe that I'm very much aware of the tightrope most managers walk, but there is such a thing as dithering, much akin to turning up on the last day of the fashion sales and expecting a wide selection of fantastic bargains which just happen to fit you perfectly. There is a lot of COMPETITION out there, after all. You gotta have balls and they need to be made of cast iron. Why is it difficult to have 'trust'? Well, did it escape your notice that on the final day of last season, every other manager involved in the relegation battle managed to motivate their troops to give the absolute best they could on the day? Except, er....well, 6-0. I still find it very, very embarrassing.
I VERY MUCH hope that I am about to be proved wrong and there is something in the pipeline to suggest that next season can be approached with well-founded optimism, but frankly I've reached the point where it really shouldn't bother me as much as it does. All the talk is of who is likely to leave. Big money has utterly wrecked football, so why the hell do I retain a passion for this club?
