"the opportunity to make themselves East Anglia's main club and make us irrelevant"
Err, hello?
Piswich: stuck in the Chumps since 2002 and haven't even won a derby for 10 years.
City: since 2002 have spent five seasons in the Prem and enjoyed a decade of derby dominance.
Pretty obvious who the main club is in East Anglia these days and who is the irrelevance.
Piswich have got a genuinely distinguished past: league title, FA Cup, UEFA Cup, two great England managers. The chances are that we will never match that, because barring the Leicester miracle (which came from a billionaire owner as well as an unbelievable set of planets aligning). It's very, very hard for any team outside the Big Six to win the League, the FA Cup or even the League Cup these days. The inequality of arms is just too great and so the chances are that Piswich will always be able to brag about their greater history.
But that history is getting ever older and ever less relevant. They did win the league, but it was in 1962, before JFK was shot. They did win the FA Cup, but it was in 1978, before Thatcher was in power. It's all a long time ago. They are miles behind us now on everything that matters in the present day - promotions, crowds, quality of players, finances, community outreach ... everything. If you haven't made it to the Prem in nearly two decades, and your last real success was 2001 (counting their 5th place finish in the Prem as a success) or 1978 (if you're going to insist on a "real" win) then you are genuinely irrelevant.
I hope they go down for the lols but I really don't care that much because they are simply an irrelevant smallish club now.
