The U.K. is a parliamentary democracy in which the electorate votes for MPs to represent

them in parliament, enstrusting them with making the right decisions for the area and the country as a whole.

Therefore putting arguably the biggest strategic decision of our time to the electorate could (and i believe should) be seen as decidedly against the U.K. form of democracy. Our democracy is all about choosing the right members of parliament to make the right decisions, not attempting to make the decisions for them, without all the supporting information.
