Dealt, as in he's gone now, but the old man died from it
It doesn't get any easier I'm afraid. One thing we were advised, which did help, was not to challenge the person too much when what they say is clearly the dementia talking. If they've been seeing a black cat in the house, when clearly there's no cats in the house, just talk to them about the black cat as if it was real. Insisting that, no dad, there's no cats in the house will just confuse and anger them. There's only so far this can help, but it helped us a little.
Music helps. Music appreciation is often one of the last things to go. Simple things like playing catch.
I meant there's many dementias, not just Alzheimer's, and they all come with a different variety of s**t sandwich, so maybe none of that will be any good, but it was for us.
Lewy body dementia, the old man had. A Parkinsonism Plus syndrome, meaning all the worst bits of Parkinson's and all the worst bits of Alzheimer's. Not a pretty way to go.
So it goes.
