They did too much, too young that was too good - especially

their lament that Diss was losing its former party town status, and their message to Judy Garland.

When I hear new material by "old" artists I find myself engaging with it very differently - enjoying the craft of how people with decades of experience put stuff together, the subtleties in the sound and the mix (or at least those I pick up on).

A good example is the Liberty of Norton Folgate by Madness - Madness were always a very musical group and they show a lot of those skills on that record. The Stones' blues album is another good example. None of it would make my Desert Island Discs, though, or is in my set of six mp3 CDs in my car.

I suspect that's more about my age than theirs, though older artists rarely break through for a variety of reasons.
