You'd have read about Apple at a guess
Who do/did reduce performance on certain handsets to compensate for batteries that were wearing out. The handsets otherwise needed batteries in tip top condition and would randomly shut down with aged batteries.
So it fixed that issue but at the expense of lower performance. A lot if people lost their s**t over it. Naturally.
