Their plight is partly a manager that doesn’t seem to have worked out, but more an issue of a steady decline over a number of years.

The steady decline is evidence again of championship football not being financially viable without significant external investment, or a fluked promotion to the premier league.

By fluked I mean promotion despite not having one of the biggest playing budgets.

On twtd they’re really quite despondent as even if hurst goes, who is going to come in and save them with a poor squad and no hope of investment?

I’ve taken some enjoyment from their plight, because it’s them and they’d love it if it was us, but overall, a big chunk of it is symptomatic of the miserable state of our game and that’s nothing to be particularly pleased about in my opinion.

It could easily be us at some point in the next 5 - 10 years. One would hope not, and actually the club seems well run to me, but within the constraints of not having a rich benefactor, it could quickly go badly wrong if we were to sell our best players to balance the books and get recruitment wrong.

I can’t see an end to the financial madness the championship has found itself in.
