Think you meant Basingstoke_Canary_J I'm the original! Well his dad

love the out of context comments SCC. He actually worked BLOODY hard to get a house. He left school at 16 and has worked his socks off basically. His point was that it can be done if you are willing to make sacrifices lifestyle wise.

Sadly a huge proportion of his generation were told their future would be determined by having a University Degree. That simply isn't true today. I feel sorry for the many graduates who are struggling to get on in life now saddled with huge debts.

Before I get the usual brick bats I am Generation X not Baby Boomer. However I also remember paying 15% interest on my first mortgage and I will be lucky to retire at 68 and be mortgage free. My pension will be less than 10% of my final salary because my generation didn't get the gold plated final salary pensions more common for the Boomers then and I am not a teacher, fireman etc that still have them. I also remember the arrival of the PC and Internet and have seen how it has transformed everyones lives and created jobs nobody could have imagined back then. In isolation you can always argue one generation had it better than another. Don't think there is a right or wrong answer here ultimately.
