I think praise is due if he had a good performance

... but he has been poor during previous matches. I don’t think the criticism was unjust, more reflective of his actions on the pitch.

I went to Stevenage and this team really toiled that evening so it’s positive the players upped their game.

Last night will be rather irrelevant at the weekend however!
