It’s the end of times... or

Maybe it’s all just a massive tilting overreaction before the end of August!

Five games in, three of which were against promotion favourites with early season form. Okay, three losses but we played some great stuff against WBA, almost got the point at Sheffield and looked pretty bright against Leeds for 20 minutes. Good spells don’t necessarily win games and playing well gathers no points in itself but the signs are much more encouraging than at this stage last season.

We showed on Wednesday that we can grind out a result in a game where we are underperforming and there will be a few more of those this season. Let’s give the season a chance to get going before we start with the Farke-out, Webber-out and Delia-out knee jerking.

As for the ‘come back Lambert’ cries... the emperor has no clothes!! Yes his spell was great and it was non stop fun and success but he got lucky. He was a small part of that success and he’s done what since? Plus, the old adage of never go back should appear in flashing lights above a picture of Mike Walker.

I suspect many have been used to intermittent success and the lure of the Premiership as sold by an increasingly one-eyed media over the past ten years but the reality now is that the world has changed and the money and investment now present in the Championship means we’d be doing well if we were at all competitive.

So what’s the answer? Sell up Delia? Who to? Where are the billionaire suitors? Plus money isn’t always the answer, the league is littered with money-pit basket case clubs who throw money at managers and players in search of instant gratification.

What is so wrong with trying it differently and seeing if we can, much like City’s possession football, play a long game? I know that isn’t de rigueur these days but calling for change so early is ludicrous.

It’s going to be a long season, we knew that. We knew we had a tough start from the fixture computer. We should know that an outside chance of the playoffs would be success this year. So why the immediate meltdowns?

Happy clapping maybe. Yellow and green tinted optimism perhaps. Little Norwich syndrome, I don’t think so. Do I feel pissed off and angry? Absolutely! Will I go to Cardiff on Tuesday... why wouldn’t I?? 😀💛💚
