Back from the game; Pinky and Pukki

With apologies to younger readers who won’t get the reference to the porcine songsters of times gone by.

I agree with many correspondents in that this was the poorest performance of the season but the fact that it brought a clean sheet and a first win proves the ‘funny old game’ adage. 75 minutes of meagre rations and a 15 minute feast of action and excitement which coincided with Bundia’s introduction and a switch to three at the back. But... it also coincided with Preston having just hit the bar and a crowd reaction to another back pass. The latter wasn’t necessarily directed at Tettey, he just happened to the one recycling the play at that moment.

First half was hard going with Hernandez our only threat. Preston had Neil had done their homework and Onel was double-teamed throughout meaning corners were the only real reward for all his endeavour.

Second half wasn’t looking much better and a Tettey was having a shocker, giving the ball away cheaply on several occasions. Fair play to him being honest and recognising it afterwards with Farke and in his interview. Pukki was working his socks off and I’m really liking the look of him and he could be a real favourite... #teamteemu.

For me, Rhodes was a bit ineffective on this display but he showed the odd touch. It was the introduction on Bundia, who showed some promise, and the switch in formation which upped the tempo plus perhaps the kick up the arse from the crowd and Preston hitting the bar (from another Tettey error, sadly).

Great play by Jamal to put Pukki in and a great little “Finnish” from him 😉 The Tettey thunderbastard was great and followed close behind a similar effort which was saved. Pleased for him as I do love Tetts.

I think there may be a few games like this where we have to grind out a result without playing at our best so I hope the crowd can be sensible and patient 😲 To be fair, atmosphere was pretty good across the game and a massive improvement on l last year... can we keep that up??

As for the pink dressing room, no idea if that had any impact whatsoever but it makes for good media coverage if nothing else.

Leeds on Saturday will be a tougher test but there style might suit us better... quietly confident.

Come in you Yellows, OTBC 💛💚
