I wish I had my copy of Fever Pitch to hand

There is a passage in there where Hornby observes as a kid that "...No-one in the ground actually seemed to enjoy themselves. They spent most of their time either flabbergasted by both the ineptitude of their own players and the amount they were earning, or shouting swear words..."

Seems apt.
