Ashton was eventually sold to West Ham for a fee approaching ?7.5 Million. Although expected to use some of those funds to enhance and improve both defence and midfield, Worthington chose to spend much of it on West Bromwich and Wales forward, Robert Earnshaw. Earnshaw, a small and fast striker must have been bemused by the Worthington tactics of "kick it hard and long" on his debut, as the Canaries lost 2-1 to local rivals, Ispwich Town.

With the backing of his Board, Worthington is expected to remain at the helm at the club for the forseeable future, and will be looking to guide the club towards the play offs in season 2006-2007, an achievement that, if reached, will stun football supporters everywhere, not least in Norfolk.
