I’m basing it on these things..

A) who I’ve seen play live (not on video etc)
B) pure footballing ability.

Hoolahan was so gifted as a football, incredible skill levels, always wanted the ball whether 5-0 up or 5-0 down. Had that rare ability to shine even in a completely s**t team.

So basing it on my 26 years as a season ticket holder (consecutive seasons) he is the standout candidate.

Many of the other candidates from my era were just decent players for there position. Was Chris Sutton any better than Grant Holt? Was Darren Huckerby any better than Darren Eadie?

Again, in terms of pure ability wes Hoolahan beats them all. If he’d have come on the scene earlier and been coached properly he Would have had the world at his feet.
