I've opened a can of worms and it's getting late.

But the old conceptions of Left and Right, and their associated policies and beliefs, are quite outmoded I think.

In the modern world, the media and various oligarchs have so much influence that there are certain things any government left of Centre-Right just wouldn't be able to do - nationalising certain industries, for example - so to have a left-wing party that promises to do this means little in reality. (Although that's not to say that people shouldn't try).

It's just that ideologies inherited from the 19th century aren't really equipped for this state of affairs ...

Anyway, we'll have to do this properly another time as I'm going to bed soon ...
