Someone at the club should have been employed to tell each incoming manager

"Ignore your perceptions of his limitations, just f'ing play Wes, but only in the hole" ever since Lambert made him into the player he was in his prime. It's frustrating how we all know how good Wes can be, but seemingly takes every new manager forever (or never) to realise this.
