Why didn't this happen at the exact same fixture in 2009 then?
I was at that game. Was entirely peaceful before, during and after as far as I remember.
Only differences I can think of are that it was a Wednesday rather than a Friday, and in the last couple of years more and more cheap hotels and AirBnBs have started off in Amsterdam (which has absolutely ruined it I have to say). However, there were still a considerable number of England fans in the away section then, and the home section felt as though it was around 20-30% English fans too.
