I was at that Brentford game, and I think two huge reasons for that were that

Pritchard and Maddison kept moving into the same space, getting in each other's way and leaving a big hole through the middle, and then Stiepermann was completely lost at full back and Reed kept getting pulled out of position because he wasn't sure whether he needed to cover him or not, leaving Vrancic vs the Brentford central midfield.

Oh, and we started with Watkins. Hanley also had a rough game but I think that was also not helped by Reed having to cover the middle and the left side of the field all game.
