We were in the first wave to emigrate from Barclay...
to Thorpe Corner about 10 years ago in the season after relegation. We all felt that A) The Barclay hadn't been the same since it was seated and B) Being fanzine kings and quite well known faces(at the time) we wanted to try and influence others to start some atmosphere in another area of the ground. It all worked very well up until about the time the club & press started referring to it as the "Snakepit". Official recognition is never useful, wanted or asked for when it comes to something that has grown organically! People started bringing their kids/girlfriends/dogs just so they could say they had been in the (sort of) famous snakepit. It's been downhill ever since really, with the last two seasons being particularly crap. We originals did decide when they were building the new South Stand that we would move over there to try spreading the atmosphere once again, but with the ticket situation there was no way of getting season tickets all together which put an end to that. At the end of the day the snakepit has many faults but at least its there and when all's said and done it's still better than the Barclay-for God's sake my 60 year old mum & dad have season tickets in there now!!!
