“We are not going up, we won’t go down”

The number of times I’ve heard this phrase used in recent weeks and every time it drives be mad.

Don’t you see this is what our board pushes us to, acceptance of sh*t, acceptance of mediocrity and essentially excusing failure.

There is half a season left and we are ten points off the top 6 with loads of talented players still in our squad and yet half our support have written off the season already thus putting the club and manager under zero pressure to actually produce results on the pitch because we are supposedly “rebuilding.” Wait for this to be used as an excuse to cash in on someone in January.

Last season we essentially wrote off despite it being our best chance of promotion. This season the mindset appears the same (transition season blah, blah, blah). We have a £30m advantage in terms of funding for gods sake. It’s ridiculous.

The board should be under pressure to sign another striker and do all they can to support a run at the playoffs, not given the green light to waste another season where we should be having a right go at promotion because the only transition we are making is a transition to being uncompetitive and you can bet your house that next season Webber, Delia and co will be trotting our the excuses about how we can’t compete with the wealthier clubs.
