Its a balance isnlt it because you don;t want to get bogged down so you've still got to keep the scoreboard ticking over. i think Root generally is the one who gets the balance most right because he's always busy and taking singles etc. A few too many of our batsmen have tried to score all their runs in boundaries in recent years wheras sometimes just getting 2-3 an over and rotating the strike is whats needed.
