you could then try before you buy
i know there's an increasing amount of research being done as the gamification of learning is becoming very big business (Duolingo and the like) most, i think, seems to be pointing towards that they can help supplement what is learned elsewhere, but never as a replacement - also you should sit down with your kids and go through the apps with them in the same way you would with a book
