Dieter Meining was an unfortunate lower league German player who a number of
incorrect decisions made against him when his team were playing a higher ranked team in the Herr Clutz cup.
The ref's performance was deemed so bad that it became a national scandal. Now every time similar events happen in matches, pundits, experts, in fact any follower of the game, refers to it as the 'Dieter Meining' moment.
