FIFA world rankings just released
1. Germany
2. Brazil
3. Portugal
4. Argentina
5. Belgium
6. Poland (really?)
7. France
8. Spain (really?)
9. Chile
10. Peru
11. Switzerland
12. England
Dunno when they take the rankings for the World Cup seedings. But wonder if there's any chance of us moving high enough to sneak in there?
Seem to remember someone - I think Switzerland? - actually scheduled a bunch of targeted friendlies to give themselves the best chance of being seeded. And it worked. Worth a shot, surely - makes a huge difference whether you're in a group with a top side or not (yes yes I know, we're s**t whatever etc - but you've still gotta give yourself the best chance.)
Mind you, I think our next two friendlies are against Germany - best side in the world? - and even worse for this, Spain - probably the most under-ranked side on there.
So doesn't quite sound as if we're taking that targeted approach...
