aren't a great deal of outstanding candidates. I'm hoping the board are waiting until we're (mathematically) safe from relegation or until May to sack him in order to get the right man in.

A few of the names mentioned are involved with teams that have a lot to play for and might not want to move at this moment in time. The next manager has to be the right one and it's a massive decision for the board, hopefully they'll get it right.
