Remember being at Elland Rd in '76. We won 3-0 and
Stoneage man wasn't happy. Loads of 'em waiting for us outside the ground. Once we saw them we went back inside the ground, climbed over a few partitions and left through a home fans exit. Stuffed the scarves deep in the pockets (no replica shirts in those days) and walked a mile or so across waste ground in twilight to the Station. Scary, but from the mid 70's to mid 80's it came with the territory. Don't think it ever went away with certain people of that age group. It was just 'put on ice' whilst they had kids. I fear it's back again both with the remnants of that generation and now a younger group as well. There have been a number of incidents across the country this season - not just yesterday - and you only have to look at some of the events in Europe to see hooliganism is still very evident across the continent. Worried for the future.
