Defensive positioning and decision making could be partially down to changing

system. A system isn't only about how you line up. Where you need to move given a certain event, and which choices you should restrict yourself to in a certain situation do change with a system.

Having said that I do agree that it doesn't change how you jump to head a ball clear, how you kick a ball in a straight line, or the speed at which you run to cut out a cross with a defender behind you.
