Foo post game thoughts

Took my son to his first game today so gutted at that result although he doesn't seem to have let it affect his day - lesson there perhaps!

I like generally what Farke is trying to do and am 100% behind the possession based approach (although based on comments around me I'm not sure some will have the patience for it) but for me he got the team selection wrong today.

Watkins looks like a solid 6/7 out of ten type, useful in the squad but i don't really see what he brings to the starting line up if others like Wes are fit and for me if we are going to play like this then we need more pace and creativity in the advanced forward positions so Wes and Murphy should start ahead of Watkins and Naismith. As it was once they had weathered our initial storm Sunderland were just able to sit back in the knowledge that none of our forwards would run at them or in behind them. Madders gets in some great positions but needs more movement ahead of him to aim for.

Other than that I thought it was a wake up call to Mr Webber. It beggars belief that we have not spent decent money on at least one experienced defender and I'm afraid he must do so before the window closes. We cannot rely on the cheap German boys back there if we are to seriously challenge.

Sunderland I thought were not particularly good and frankly there for the taking had we performed better.
