That's not how it is, Dandy. If he repeats that kind of thing then maybe, but it's really
quite common that things like this happen on the spur of the moment when somebody has a bit of fire.
You need people like that. They are winners.
Quite simply it's about net energy vs return. If they return little yet still regularly do things like this which cost the manager and team more energy than they give back, then get rid (e.g. Lafferty).
If they produce consistently and once or twice a season do something which costs a bit of energy, then it's just part of them and it's part of what we pay managers to understand and channel correctly. These guys are just winners and they get frustrated when they are not winning or not playing. Not sulky but fired up and determined, and in emotional moments it can and occasionally will spill over.
If they constantly cost more energy than they give back and are a constant distraction from what the team should be focusing on, then get rid regardless of their ability.
I think (and hope) from what we've seen in the past that Nelson is in category 2 but we shall see.
Believe me, during the course of a season there will be FAR more perceived drama at any single training ground in the country than you will see on TV all season. Put a group of competitive men in a high pressure environment, in each other's pockets constantly for 9 months of a year and things happen. But also most of it is just over in a flash because those guys also understand that's how it is.
