What happened was................

I noticed her getting served on the next checkout. As she was leaving she suddenly stopped in front of me to look at her receipt (perhaps she noticed the rise in the cost of living...) She hadn't bought much at all but looked very confused.

I took the opportunity to say hello and politely raise concerns about government cuts etc. She claimed there was a rise of 1% in spending on education but I pointed out that inflation was higher than 1% so it is a cut in real terms.
