I use iTunes to organise the many mp3s I appear to have of lots of stuff
Mostly ripped off of old CDs. Just create loads of playlists in iTunes and sync with your phone and you're good to go.
I have different playlists for different runs depending what kind of training I'm doing at the time. Usually something quiet for the first 2-3 miles as I have a bad habit of starting too quick. For long runs where I'm maintaining I tend to listen to podcasts rather than music, but if I'm building distance I'll have hard rock/euphoric house/whatever in the difficult bits, similar for an intervals session, with quieter stuff in the in-betweens.
