Is it possible that the in-tournament training was light
as they were playing every 3 or 4 days in a hot country? Rather than Saffers coming back unfit, I suspect he came back tired and Worthy had him doing laps of Colney ...
Assuming that Worthy's analysis of Saffers condition is accurate of course.
