Yes but you are not "signing your home over to a private company"

You are securing a debt owed to the state against your house. There is a difference.

I think there is a debate here in terms of whether certain illnesses such as dementia fall under social care or health care but why should the state fund the occupational/social care of what is going to continue to be a growing section of society (many of whom have benefitted from huge growth in the value of their houses over the last 40 years) when the state does not have enough to go around?
