Who knows about private plates on cars?

I'm buying a used car which, when I test driv it, still had private plates on from the previous owner. Will they get took off and replaced with regular reg plates? Or will I get the private plates too? I don't want to look he the kind of cock that puts private plates on a Honda f**king Civic y'see.
