Start with anything. I treated myself to a pair of Kayano 23's recently but for older farts like us MIKE, the gel lining in all their shoes is invaluable.

See if you can get a pair of Gel Pulse or Gel Sonomas - should be no more than £40/ £50 or see if you can find an end of line deal somewhere online.

Sadly you used to be able to get some bargains at Sports Direct (if you can stomach doing business with them) but that arrangement seems to have dried up.
