One thing that depresses me is that government policy is a matter of deciding who dies.

People will die. The government decides how many and who; the party you vote for determines whether it's more or fewer, and it's poor people generally who bear the brunt, although you can extend it to include ill and unfortunate people. We hear politicians say that the NHS needs to be more cost-effective, but this means more people will die. That's the decision they're making.

And yes, before anyone states the obvious, I am aware that people die all the time. It's just that certain policies tend to accelerate the process for some.
