4-3-3 is really a long ball formation because it almost always means you are outnumbered in midfield. This means your central midfielders are never in space so your defenders have to play long balls over their heads. Hucks pretty much forces you into 4-3-3 and thereby long ball football, and at some point we have to decide whether the pace and excitement he (usually) brings are worth that price. Because of his performances in 2003/4 that is a very difficult decision to make but I fear we will have to at some point.
