No reliable evidence that they work on any level. They play the social mobility card, but only 3% of grammar school pupils are classed as disadvantaged compared to around 12% nationally. A grammar school head recently said to he that it was to be expected as poor students are not as bright as wealthier students. It was an effort to respond in a professional manner...
