The more I think it could work out. He wouldn't be the first person to be affected by the poisonous atmosphere of Villa Park. Add to that the Manager who persuaded him to sign is sacked and replaced by Bruce. He may be DESPERATE to get his career back on track after realising that he made a huuuuge mistake.
I think that if he were to take the required pay cut to join us it would be a pretty sure sign that the above were the case. If he isn't then we can't afford him and, more importantly, don't want him.
Added to that, if it came down to a medical, I would hope that we would decline if it were to take more than a month to get him fully fit.
