Been there on business a fair bit

I'd stay as near to Connaught Place as you can. If you walk around (as I like to) people will follow you (once for a couple of miles, quite openly when I was there), then come up to you and try to entice you into their shop. If you get a taxi from a hotel they won't just take you somewhere, they will stay with you all day if you like - there's a different rate to get in to e.g. the red fort (something like 100 rupees for foreigns, 2 rupees for locals) - you're expected to pay them in but they will leave you alone then pick you up and drive you on. Once I got driven half way told to get out and get in the back of a rickshaw which was just a marvellous way to move around Delhi. Traffic jams can be horrendous. Don't bother going out to Noida. See the Red Fort, the big Mosque, the big Gurdwara - you have to pay to leave your shoes outside, it's fine they'll still be there after, and you have to hire a covering for your head - India Gate is worth a good five minutes...after driving you half a day or all day the driver typically won't charge you but will say "as you like" or "give what you want". 500 rupees (about a fiver) for a half day was received with sincere joy when I did that. If they try to get you into a shop, if it's a driver's cousin or something better to go in and not buy anything than not go in. Eat as the locals do but drink bottled water. It's an amazing place (hot and dusty, obvs).
