I said some time ago

that our League Cup side would actually be quite a decent Championship side, and given the latest disaster (can't remember which particular one, there have been several) we should start that side in the league and let the "better" players win their places back in the usual manner.

My tongue was a little bit in my cheek at the time, but I can't help feeling that we'd not have done any worse, and might have done better, if we'd done exactly that. Still could.
