Hmm. On Moxey:

Look, I don't know. I give him credit for helping get them up, at last, to the Prem in 2003; and much more for what they did under McCarthy. They were nowhere when MM first came in; he did a magnificent job, and having been chronic under-achievers for decades, they became over-achievers for 5 years or so.

Trouble is, they hit a glass ceiling; their fans, as we all know, have never been the most understanding bunch, and turned against McCarthy horrendously viciously... then Moxey and Wolves just totally lost the plot for the next 18 months. But hey ho, he's in good company there, and not just with our current or former board members: many many clubs which receive acclaim for being "well run" suddenly collapse. Charlton after a decade under Curbishley; Swansea now, even Ipswich given how pathetic they've been throughout Evans' time there.

I do think Moxey must be credited for Wolves rebounding from their predicament so fast; for what can happen instead, see Sheffield United, or even Portsmouth. Overall, his record there was perfectly solid - but the big question mark about him, and I imagine the thing which gets Wolves fans' goat so much, is the gulf that's opened up between them and West Brom. The latter should, in my view, be a naturally smaller club with less potential; but they've left Wolves trailing in their wake, and have been the model club in many ways for 15 years now.

Conclusion? Jury's out - and we shouldn't forget that while we're all slagging him off now, most of us thought McNally had gone way past his sell-by date before he left too. The real loss, in my view, was Bowkett: I think he kept things ticking over, and his hugely positive attitude was just as (if not more) instrumental as McNally's between 2009 and 2012 or so.
