Think his success was more about momentum and confidence than tactics

He was lucky to join us in League One with the likes of Wes and Holly who were just too good. The confidence we gained from winning regularly carried us through the Championship, where we often looked a bit of a tactical mess but the belief of the players that we would find a way to win (because we had done so so often) made it happen.
Think if he'd joined us when Gunn was appointed he'd have found it much harder to build that momentum (struggling in the Championship with a squad full of loanees)
The momentum was starting to wear off a bit towards the end of his Prem season here, and he never showed any remote signs of being a tactical genius at Villa.
