If You're A Fan, You're A Fan...
If you?re a fan, you?re a fan.
I used to go as often as I could, home and away-nothing too organised, turn up, get in where you can, quite often, in consecutive games I would be in the River End, then the South Stand, then the Barclay, then somewhere else again. I didn?t ?and don?t- think, ?this makes me an ?x? type of supporter?, and who does, you go because you love your team and you want to go and support them whenever and wherever you can.
Ditto with away games. I did Club Canary (many aeons ago!) once, and that was it for me-having Duncan on the coach, extolling the virtues of Ross Jack (that tells you how long ago it was!) was fun, but, at the end of the proverbial, I want to go when I want to go, with who I want to go with, stop and eat when I want, stop and piss when I want, walk back to my own car without being herded by the police etc etc etc.
But I don?t go to half as many games as I?d like. Moving back to Norfolk soon will make that easier-back on the ST waiting list, and, for the rest of this season, will go to reserve games.
I have a great deal of admiration and respect for those that go to all of the games, home and away. Does that make them ?better? supporters than me though? Well, maybe it does, but then again, are their circumstances ?better? than mine? I work kin? hard during the week, and, at the weekend, want to spend time with Sarah. If wanting to do things and visit places, spend time with my wife rather than trail up from Chichester to Norwich, or God knows where, every Saturday, makes me a lesser supporter, then go on, tell me I am, I can take it!
All I know for certain is that I love my club, it isn?t unconditional, but its there, and it?ll never go away. Ever. And that, to me, makes me a fan. Simple.
Good post by way Conker.
