Regardless of which format you prefer, what matters most is whether it sounds good to you.

However, if you are an audio purist then there are so many variables to consider.

Few people actually listen to music on recording studio quality monitors (speakers). Studio monitors are designed to have a flat frequency response (they all fail to do it but they do try), whereas hi-fi speakers are designed to artificially boost certain frequencies to make them sound pleasing. I find it odd that purists spend more money on hi-fi speakers than it would cost to buy a good pairs of studios monitors.

On top of that you have to consider the device you are using to listen to the music. Another factor is the environment/room where you are listening; which will alter how your hear frequencies. In addition, a lot of people use 'bass boost' and EQ settings etc. that alter how artists intended their music to be heard.

ALL headphones are terrible for accuracy. Their frequency response is all over the place and the stereo image is appalling. However, what they are good for is hearing details. You can do that on low budget headphones.

There is also hearing ability to consider.

So... lots of major things to consider other than just music format.
